An Educational Podcast for Working Dog Handlers.
In this episode, we sit down with Roy Lopez, a former NAVY SEAL and retired Border Patrol K9 Handler and certified instructor. Roy shares his knowledge and experiences as one of the first handlers in the U.S. Border Patrol’s Search, Trauma and Rescue Team (BORSTAR) K9 Program. As the agency’s first certified trailing canine handler, he was able to record almost 2,000 people finds over his extensive career.
Our guest, Tracy “Trace” Sargent, has spent decades tracking down serial killers and looking to recover missing persons. In this episode, she shares her experience and delivers sound advice for those looking to get into the field.
In this episode we look at some of the similarities and differences of working as part of a small, rural agency, compared with an agency as large as the LAPD. From dog and handler selection, to policy and operational practices, we talk to Mike and Jake to get their individual perspectives.
About The K9 Roll Call Podcast
The K9 Roll Call podcast was developed to bring an educational – yet conversational – approach to the world of police and military K9 training. Through a series of interviews and discussions with handlers, trainers, scientists and other industry experts, our mission is to provide working dog teams with information that can be applied in the day-to-day operations of K9 teams.
